Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
