Jennifer Lawrence Says Mentioning Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ That’s Ripping the Nation Apart

The star has revealed that she no longer feels suitable to comment publicly regarding the Trump administration, fearing it could exacerbate divisive discussions and deepen rifts within the nation.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes the Actress

During a discussion, she commented, “During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was moving hastily without clear direction. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars have no real impact in any way on voter decisions.”

Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the country apart.”

Political Evolution

The actress has spoken candidly about backing conservative and liberal presidential nominees over the years. Brought up by conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she supported the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and stating she recognized during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was undermining her individual liberties as a woman.

Previous Comments

In 2015, she stated that Donald Trump’s election would be “a disaster” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she voiced her backing to Kamala Harris, “since I believe she’s a strong contender and I know that she will make every effort to protect reproductive rights.”

Celebrity Views

Lawrence was supported by numerous celebrities in her opposition to Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage stars have over the public choices was highlighted by the outcome.

“Another four years feels different,” said Lawrence of his administration. “Since he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”

Latest Film

Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a young mom who struggles with her psychological well-being in a remote area. At a media event for the project in Venice, she spoke about the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is nothing short of a atrocity and it’s awful.”

Broader Concerns

She continued by saying that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discussions of American politics currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the children today. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”

Lawrence aimed to shift anger about the issue to leaders rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she remarked, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge signed by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.

Personal Connections

Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her performance in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in her latest project. Although the director has denied the plot being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, she shared that she did relate to parts of her role’s experience after the arrival of her new baby, shortly after shooting ended.

“It was fear for my son,” she explained, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was already in therapy, but I got on a medication called the prescription and I continued it for two weeks and it was effective.”

Professional Experiences

Jennifer Lawrence also mentioned of the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the movie while she was some months pregnant and couldn’t work out.

“It feels nice,” she said, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
