Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a significant and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the American officials has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.
It said wreckage landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
